Jakarta International School ( JIS ) is a private
international school in Jakarta , Indonesia. The
school was established in 1951 for the children of expatriates living in mobile
Jakarta and an international primary and secondary schools in Indonesia . JIS
has 2,400 students aged 3 to 18 years from 60 countries . This
school curriculum models mengikuri North America from preschool through grade
12 . School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges
and the Council of International Schools . U.S.
State Department reported that the Jakarta International School curriculum has
a strong international focus and consider it as one of the best schools abroad
to prepare students enter universities in the United States . JIS
has three campuses , two in the SD in Pattimura and Pondok Indah and the main
campus for middle and high school in Cilandak , South Jakarta .
This school is one of the oldest international school in Indonesia . The school was first established by a group of expatriates who move in Jakarta in 1951 . They generally work as a representative of the United Nations ( UN ) for Indonesia . At that time , the newly independent Indonesia and other countries began to receive representation . UN workers have agreed to establish a school to meet the educational needs of their children . The school started operating with English as the medium of education daily . Initially , the school only has five students who are the children of expatriates .
The school was given the name of the Joint Embassy School in 1969 because it is filled by the children of expatriates who originate from the UK , USA , Australia , and Yugoslavia . The embassy states that the proponent of funding for student activities at the school . After going through nearly six decades since its founding , the school now offers education for the primary level to high school . They have a foundation that is responsible for the management of the school . The foundation consists of eleven people from the UK embassy , the United States , and Australia .
